Primary School
Cultivating Lifelong Learners at Sunflower Schools
At Sunflower Schools, we are committed to providing a well-rounded education that nurtures each child’s academic and personal growth. Through a blended curriculum and a focus on both core subjects and interpersonal skills, we aim to develop confident, independent learners.
Our approach at Key Stages One and Two encourages critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, while fostering a love for learning. With a strong emphasis on practical application, educational visits, and collaborative projects, our students are equipped with the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Key Stage One (Ages 6-8)
At Sunflower Schools, Key Stage One (Years 1-3) offers a blended curriculum to develop both learning and interpersonal skills. We aim to nurture confident, independent children with high self-esteem. Lessons encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration through discussions, presentations, and projects. Educational visits are tied to classroom topics, enriching learning experiences.
- Year 1: Builds on reception learning while introducing new challenges. Focus on independent learning is balanced with group tasks. Core subjects are taught daily, with a strong emphasis on comprehension, P.E., art, and library sessions.
- Year 2: Transitions to a more structured learning approach, with integrated teaching and longer concentration spans.
- Year 3: Focuses on independence, creativity, and preparation for Key Stage 2. Handwriting is refined using either Nelson or Collins methods.
Key Stage Two (Ages 8-11)
In Key Stage Two (Years 3-5), pupils follow a broad curriculum that includes French and Arabic. They take on more responsibility for planning their learning and are encouraged to work independently. Homework is regularly assigned and recorded, with parental involvement encouraged to establish good study habits.
